Liquefied Natural Gas Plant Siting Study

This 2002 project involved a siting study in three counties to identify opportunitites to site a 20,0000 MCD liquefied natural gas (LNG) vaporization facility along the existing high pressure gas system in the Mountain/Southern region of Xcel Energy’s Colorado service area. The facility was planned to meet the peak day requirements for the gas system. Primary siting criteria and opportunities included proximity to an existing natural gas pipeline, all-weather highway access, land use compatibility, stable geologic conditions, and engineering and cost considerations.
