Diaryland Power Plant Site Selection

This 2003-2004 project involved the site selection study across a 44,500 square mile service territory covering four states in the upper Midwest. The utility was faced with the challenge of finding the optimum site for a new 400MW coal-fired power plant. This project involved a three phase site selection process which resulted in the identification of two primary power plant sites after undertaking an detailed GIS analysis. In conducting the spatial analysis, beta-versions of ArcGIS Desktops Model Builder were used to perform the Phase 1/2/3 analysis to allow iterative analysis of project criteria.
